VACATION

PROFESSIONALS
Full-time professional employees accrue vacation leave according to a fixed rate schedule. Employees must schedule and report any vacation according to the procedures described below. An employee may have to reimburse the College for unearned vacation taken.

Accruing Vacation
Vacation leave begins to accrue the month the employee starts work if the employee starts between the first and fifteenth of the month; otherwise, vacation leave begins to accrue on the first of the following month. Contract employees may take their vacation, however, before it is earned.

Vacation leave is accrued according to the following schedule. Employees may not receive pay for vacation days not taken unless they are terminating employment. In addition, after accruing maximum vacation leave, the employee will have three (3) months to take a vacation or the accruing of additional vacation will stop.

Scheduling Vacations
Employees may schedule their vacation at any time with the approval of their supervisor. Vacations during strategic times, such as registration, orientation, or budget preparation, may not be granted.

Vacations that are longer than one (1) week may be scheduled no less than a month in advance. Vacation for less than half a day may not be taken.

If scheduling conflicts occur, the concerned employees can try to work it out. Seniority will settle any unresolved conflicts.

Recording Vacation Leave
Vacation records will be kept current. All vacation time must be reported on the “Absence from Campus” form. When reporting or scheduling vacation time, the employee should not count an official College holiday as a day of vacation.

Reimbursing the College for Unearned Vacation
An employee must reimburse the College for any unearned vacation that was taken. If the employee does not reimburse the College, the Business Office will deduct an equivalent amount from that employee’s final paycheck.
