The College will grant leave with pay to full-time College employees for bereavement or serious illness in the immediate family.

LEAVE FOR BEREAVEMENT OR SERIOUS ILLNESS
DEATH
A full-time employee may be granted Bereavement Leave for up to five (5) working days
because of a death in the immediate family.
Definition of Immediate Family
The immediate family includes spouse/partner, children, parents (including step-parents),
legal guardians, grandparents (including grandparents of a spouse/partner and step-grandparents),
grandchildren and their spouses/partners, siblings and step-siblings, immediate in-laws,
aunt, uncle, niece or nephew of the employee or of their spouse/partner.
Amount of Leave
The President, or designee, will decide how many days of leave will be granted after
considering the situation, such as the relationship of the deceased person to the
employee and the distance to be traveled.
SERIOUS ILLNESS
A full-time employee may also be granted Bereavement Leave for up to five working
days because of a serious illness of the immediate family as defined above, exclusive
of spouse/partner, parents and dependents. (Employees may take Sick Leave for serious
illness of these family members). The President, or designee, will decide how many
days will be granted using the guideline above.
Approval Process
To be approved for bereavement/serious illness leave, the employee must send the request
in writing, including the name and relationship of the family member, to their immediate
supervisor who will forward the request to the appropriate administrator or designee.
