1. Procedure

The Board of Trustees authorizes the operation of a campus security and safety services department at Western Wyoming Community College. It is the responsibility of the College President and their designees to develop and implement the Campus Security and Safety Department.

Campus Security and Safety Department Employee Expectations:

  • Campus Security and Safety Department employees will be non-sworn, Western employees without arrest authority.
  • Abide by the College’s Weapon’s Policy (3910K).
  • Employees will demonstrate continuous knowledge of pertinent local, state and Federals laws by documenting and reporting law violations to law enforcement partners as defined by Western policy.
  • Employees will positively represent Western in their duties, demonstrating strong community connections and adhering to Western’s guiding principles, while respecting personal rights guaranteed by the Wyoming and United States Constitutions

 

Campus Security and Safety Department Responsibilities:

  • The Department will serve to protect the campus community, monitor safety, and provide asset protection duties for all Western owned or leased property in the Western service area.
  • The Department will serve as the primary Campus Security Authority. The department will collect crime statistics from campus and outreach locations, maintain the daily crime log, and assist the Compliance Coordinator with maintaining Clery Act compliance.
  • The Department will educate the campus community concerning Western rules, policies and procedures, taking reasonable action to investigate, manage and document serious policy violations. They will also meet with Western groups, if requested, to provide education related to crime prevention and personal safety.
  • The Department will coordinate with all campus departments to encourage safety, crime reporting and provide leadership in emergency management.
  • The Department will develop and maintain positive working relationships with local emergency services providers in the service area.
