Exercise Science
Why Choose Western?
At Western, we offer a hands-on learning environment designed to provide practical experience and personalized attention. Our small class sizes ensure that you receive the support and guidance you need, a distinct advantage over larger universities. Beginning in the first semester, you’ll have the opportunity to work with real clients from diverse backgrounds, gaining valuable experience in developing individualized fitness programs, conducting fitness testing, and engaging in community wellness initiatives.
Real-World Experience
As an Exercise Science student, you’ll have access to advanced fitness testing tools, including VO2max and Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) testing using a metabolic cart. These hands-on experiences help you develop a comprehensive understanding of fitness and wellness, preparing you for success in the field.
Our program provides over 160 hours of practicum experience, covering a wide range of competencies such as assessment and screening, fitness testing, group fitness instruction, one-on-one training, and leadership. These real-world experiences, combined with a solid academic foundation, ensure that you are well-prepared to sit for the ACE Personal Trainer and/or ACE Group Fitness exams upon graduation.
Unique Opportunities for Growth
In addition to core learning, our program includes field trips, attending conferences, and engaging in community projects, which further enrich your learning journey and professional development. These opportunities not only provide hands-on learning but also allow you to build connections with industry professionals, expanding your career prospects.
