Songs of the Month

Part of my New Year resolution is to share more of the songs that bring me joy, and for this month I was able to go through and pick different songs that have given me inspiration or songs that sound really fun.
“Knees Knockin” by Shandryn Trumble
“Knees Knocking” is one of the few songs that I love listening to, and Shandryn is a very small artist. The memory that I have associated with this song is that Shandryn Trumble used to substitute teach, and on numerous occasions she used to substitute for my band classes. Whenever she came in, she always had her guitar with her and was always playing music for us whenever we got done with whatever it was we were tasked with. “Knees Knockin” is one of the songs that makes me feel like that no matter what, I can always push through. “I wanna see your colors shinin’, feel your knees knock on next to mine.” This line in particular just sticks to me, and I know that I will always have someone that I can knock knees with and we can walk the path of life together.
“Inertia” by AJR
When I heard this song for the very first time, I started crying. For reference, inertia is a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged. As someone who has battled with my mental health since I was 15, the urge to do nothing and to be stuck in the same routine every day, that’s such a horrible feeling. When I heard this song, it reminded me that I have goals, and in order for me to obtain those goals, I need to keep pushing through and change the things that keep holding me back, because if I can’t start my change with those simple things, I won’t be able to change. This song helped me realize that I’m strong and I can keep going.
“A-Punk” by Vampire Weekend
Vampire Weekend is a band that I got to see in concert last year, and this one was special to me as it was at Red Rock Amphitheater which was an experience in itself. The band itself has been playing since 2008, together for 16 years now. My dad has been listening to them ever since they started releasing music, and A-Punk has always been a circulating song as it’s also their most popular song, followed by Campus and Oxford Comma that came from that first album. Being able to see this band live with my entire family was such an amazing experience, and my dad is complete for being able to take his girls to see his favorite band.
