Mental Health Throughout the Semester
“You’re going to go through tough times – that’s life. But I say, ‘Nothing happens to you, it happens for you.’ See the positive in negative events.”-— Joel Osteen
When you become a student in college, you notice that your mental health is trudging through the mud a little bit, and sometimes your mental health is being dragged through the mud. We all struggle with trying to keep up throughout the semester, but it’s how you deal with it to make sure you stay afloat. There are many different ways to handle your mental health, but you don’t know what you can use, I’m here to give you that information.
Seek Professional Help
It’s the biggest thing that you can do, and sometimes if you’re seeking help outside of campus, counseling sessions can become pricey, but at Western Wyoming Community College, the college offers free counseling services in room 1227. There is a lot more that the Wellness and Accessibility Center offers such as a crisis and emergency mental health response, activities focused on wellbeing & mental health, and they also have a relaxation room where students can decompress. Don’t be afraid to stop in, the workers are there to help no matter what.
Take Care of Yourself
As a student, I know that there are times that we forget to take care of ourselves, but that is one of the most important things in making sure that you aren’t struggling to the point where you’re missing class, missing meal times, and missing work if you’re working. Put yourself first, sometimes taking a mental day is beneficial for your health so you are able to bathe, eat, and catch up on sleep if you're struggling to sleep because of doing school work. You can catch up on work but you won’t be able to if you’re burnt out.
Talk to Someone You Trust
If you have friends that you care about, and you would reach out to them and help them if they came to you to listen to them and their struggles, chances are that those friends also want you to come to them as well if you’re needing a person to lean on for help. Friends are there to help build each other up and see each other grow. This help doesn’t have to be just your friend either, you can always reach out to your parents and have a chat with them about how you’re feeling, they love you and want you to reach out if you’re having troubles with staying on top of everything.
