Failure I can live with, not trying is what I can't handle--Sanya Richards-Ross

Are you an incoming freshman aspiring to be an athlete here at Western? We all know that being a first-time college student can already be stressful as it is, but adding a sport to your degree of choice can be another level of stress. With that being said, Mustangs Athletics includes, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Women’s Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, as well as Men’s Wrestling. Here are some tips to get you prepared to potentially be part of the Mustangs Athletics Program.

BALANCING HOMEWORK AND ATHLETICS

Balancing homework and athletics is doable, believe it or not! Making sure to prioritize your homework and setting a designated time to do homework will help keep you on track. If you feel that you are falling behind, try talking to your coaches, I am sure that they will be more than understanding and help get you back on track. It is important to stay disciplined in your work as well as your team practices. Lastly, remember to take care of yourself, get enough rest, eat well, and take care of your overall well-being, as this can aid in performance both academically and athletically.

WHAT IS EXPECTED

Here at Western they offer a great athletic program, they truly care about the athletes, not only athletically but academically as well. While it is important to make sure you are doing your part for the team's success, it is just as important to remember to be a team player. Being a team player and giving back to the community is not only an essential value here at Western, but also helps our programs be successful and build a culture for the community. Remember that you will always be supported if you choose to continue to a four-year school after Western!

ADVICE

The college experience is one that doesn't last forever. It is important to remember this when you are in a state of feeling stressed. Make sure to enjoy every moment because time does fly by believe it or not! Get involved in school activities and try to stay connected with your team!
