Are you looking for activities to do that’s off campus? Are you looking for things to do once the snow hits the ground? Well lucky for you, there are a handful of activities you could do, some are a few hours away, some are just a quick trip outside of Rock Springs. Western has built a 2D map, searchable by activities, to help you find just what you are looking for! Here are some of my favorites.

If you travel north of Rock Springs and take US-191, there’s a turn-out spot where you are able to visit the Killpecker Sand Dunes and Boars Tusk. Both are amazing sights to visit due to the fact of the history of Boars Tusk being the remnants of an old volcano. Both of those are fun places to visit, but if you head south of Green River, you will come across the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, a beautiful lake where you can go boating, fishing, cliff jumping, camping, hiking, and so much more. The best time to visit is during the summer and early fall. If you didn’t get a chance to visit during those times, not to worry; once the Flaming Gorge freezes over, it’s a great place to go ice fishing in the middle of winter.

If you’re wanting to get into skiing or snowboarding or just wanting to find a place to go tubing, if you go up to Pinedale, the White Pine Ski Resort is the closest ski resort to Rock Springs and is relatively cheap. If you’re wanting another skiing resort, if you keep driving past Pinedale and make it to Jackson Hole, they have Snow Kings Ski Resortand many other outdoor winter activities! My favorite thing to do while I’m up in Jackson Hole is driving into the Teton National Park in hopes to see a moose or two and seeing all of the elk in their herds.

If you’re not the outdoorsy kind of person, there are still plenty of things to do in and around Rock Springs that are fun. In Rock Springs, you can always catch a movie at the WyoMovies theater, or wanting group fun, there is the bowling alley that is in downtown Rock Springs. If those are not activities you’re looking for, Salt Lake City, Utah is less than three hours away, and there is all sorts of things to do there ranging from concerts, shopping at any of the malls, or even catching a Utah Jazz basketball game. There are so many things that you can do in and around Rock Springs, and don’t be afraid to share with others if you find any fun activities, because that makes everyone's experience ten times better!
