"Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and we must support them if we want to keep our communities vibrant and strong." - Howard Schultz, Former CEO of Starbucks

With the holidays approaching, you may be like me and starting your gifting and party lists. Are you someone who likes to shop but sometimes shopping at the chain stores isn’t always the greatest option around? Well, shopping locally is one of the best things you can do that helps out businesses in town. Shopping locally ranges from shopping at small clothing shops, game stores, bakeries, and even restaurants that are owned by people who are living in your town is a great way to help boost their sells and get them going. If you’re looking for different shops that you can visit here in Rock Springs, here is my list of some of the different shops you can check out when you are wanting to get out of your dorm room.

Shops

Shop Local is also a national holiday and falls each Saturday after Thanksgiving. You can score some great deals this day during your shopping! In Rock Springs, we have several shops that offer so many things, but these are my favorites:

  • Mack & Co Boutique located at 204 Elk St, selling home goods such as soaps, jams, glassware, and so much more!
  • Dugout Collectibles located at 515 N Front St, a game shop that specializes in Warhammer, Magic the Gathering, and Dungeons and Dragon events all the time.
  • The Stellar Cellar located at 403 N Front St, selling clothes, records, incense, and other fun trinkets.

Restaurants

Shopping can make you hungry and thirsty! If you’re looking for more of locally owned restaurants, there are so many places to choose from, but some of my favorites include:

  • Remedies Grill located on 409 Broadway St, open from 11 AM - 3 PM, Monday thru Friday. A great place to grab a bite and wonderful staff members who are always so kind. They even sell UW clothes, Wyoming themed home décor and a card shop in the back. Two for one!
  • Cowboy Donuts located on 1573 Dewar Dr. They make some of the best donuts around if you’re looking for a great but simple breakfast for yourself or a group of people, donuts and kolaches are made fresh every morning and tend to sell out pretty quickly if you’re not in the store at a decent time.
  • Deja Brew drive-thru huts located at 2475 Foothill Blvd and 1523 9th St is a great coffee shop that always makes some of the best coffees, Red Bull flavors, soda mixes, and cookies, just be patient as sometimes there usually a long line waiting to get a drink.
  • Nell’s Coffee located at 1100 Elk St and 810 Powerhouse Drive is also another coffee and energy drink shop but if you go to their location on Powerhouse Drive, they make some of the best pepperoni pizza with hot honey on it, but that’s just me.

There are so many small businesses that I didn’t put on this list, but if you do a quick Google search, you are bound to find so much more that you might find interesting or learn to love them a lot. Don’t be afraid to get our and explore what the town has to offer.
