Lucky Liver

As we enter into March, the month is filled with so many different holidays and many of them celebrate around drinking! If you go out for drinks or fun over the weekend, there are a lot of things that you should keep in mind to make sure that you are smart when it comes to drinking and making sure that you and your friends are responsible.
Drinking and Driving
Whether you’re driving to your drinking location or you carpool with someone else, and you consume alcohol, you should never get behind any wheel. If you’re pulled over while under the influence, you can and most likely will be arrested with driving under the influence, also known as a DUI, and you can spend the night in jail. On top of that, if you’re caught and are given a DUI, your insurance can go up as you’re shown to be a risky driver. There is also a huge risk that if you’re driving while under the influence, you could potentially be in a wreck, which can result in yourself and others being injured, or death. Always either have a designated driver (D.D.), call someone who has been sober to pick you up, or you can get a hold of Angel Rides at (307) 389-7767. Angel Rides is a free taxi service that is used so people can get home safely after a night of drinking.
Body Damage
When drinking, your body can be affected when you’re drinking alcohol. Some of the biggest things that you should notice when drinking is that your cognitive functions aren’t working the same, you begin to lose balance when standing and walking. You might start to slur your words, and your brain isn’t functioning at its full capacity, so making correct choices is not on the table for you. Not only does it affect how you think and walk, but your liver takes a hit when you’re drinking, especially an excessive amount of alcohol. Your liver is working hard to break down the alcohol in a process called oxidation. Oxidation is when your body is breaking down the alcohol into water and carbon dioxide, and when you’re consuming so much alcohol, your liver is having a hard time keeping up with the breakdown process that your body starts to take damage and begins to destroy cells and even your organs.

So if you’re out celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day or spending a Saturday night out on the town, think about what could happen if you’re not responsible while drinking. Have a good time and drink safely!
