Sometimes when you’re in high school or even when you first get into college, you might be overwhelmed with trying to figure out what career path you want to follow. Wyoming Boots is a new program that Western Wyoming Community College has, in partnership with Lightcast.

Wyoming Boots is a website that allows students to take a free quiz that can help point you in the general direction of what you might want to pursue as a career. It looks for patterns of what you might enjoy.

I know for a fact that when I came to Western I didn’t have a single clue in the world of what I wanted to do as a career after originally going to school for fishery biology and management. I was stuck at a crossroad of trying to figure out what I wanted to do as going into education didn’t seem like the right choice. I was trying to branch away from my parents as they were all teachers.

After taking the Wyoming Boots quiz, it reminded me that there was so much more out there that I might be interested in, but also reminded me that I had a love for writing. Because of that reminder, I was able to start down a path of wanting to work towards my general associates where I’ll be able to continue my education, at the University of Wyoming, for my bachelors in Journalism! The six-question quiz gave me a basic overview of some of the core things that I like, which were: being investigative, artistic, and social.

Going into the field of journalism is a great way to express all three of those categories as it really works my brain and I have the goal of making everyone work their mind, even if it’s just for a little bit, that’s the end goal.

If you think this would be interesting to look at and explore on your own or if you wanted to get in contact and schedule an Individual Advising Appointment (IAA) where you would be able to get more personalized input about the results you got from your test, that is always an option for you! All you have to do it go to the Career Coach page HERE.
