Oh The Labs
“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”-— Malcolm X
Are you constantly writing papers and doing homework assignments on campus but only using the computers in the Hay Library, or are you sick and tired of working on your assignments in your dorm room? Well, did you know that there are six other labs other than the Hay Library that you could be using? Western Wyoming Community College offers campus provided machines in all these different labs, giving you the ability to work on your assignments whenever, but also providing extra assistance from staff members, such as Kaden Allen who works in the Information Systems lab. I asked what was one of the goals that the labs have, and he said, “To provide a comfortable and quiet space for students to study, and where they can also get general technological assistance. We specialize in Excel and Microsoft Word.” Some of the locations of the different rooms are:
- IS: 1448
- 2nd Floor Lab: 2052
- Learning Center: 2051
- Green River Center Labs: 106/104/110
- Library: 2055
- Midi Lab: B-142
- Rocky Mountain Hall
If you’re looking for more specialized subjects, Western offers several other labs that are not technology based. Some of those labs include.
- MAC (Math): 1407
- Engineering: 1441
- Electronics: 1346
- Writing Lab: A200
- Physics: 1332
- ESL Class: 2021
- Technology & Industry: 1512
All these services are open and available for students to use, that’s the entire purpose of each of these labs. Some of the labs are empty most of the time, a solid 25% according to some of the staff. If you’re not needing any help but need a spot to do your work, any of these labs are a great spot to sit and to crank out your homework or do any studying there. If none of these are piquing your interest, the Peer Tutoring/ Writing Center located in room 2052, next to the Hay Library, is also a great spot for students to hang out and do their work, and if they are struggling with any assignments, most general studies classes can be tutored by one of their many different tutors, online and in-person.
Don’t be afraid to explore the campus, there are many different rooms that are open to students and members of the community. If you’re wanting to go to any of these labs but have questions, feel free to check out the Computer Labs page that’s on Western's main page, or finding the link to the page on your MyWestern account.
