Once Upon A Mattress

Western Wyoming Community College’s Performing Arts Department will present the musical “Once Upon A Mattress” on February 24, 25, 26, and March 4, at 7:30PM, with a public matinee on Saturday, March 5 at 2:00PM.
Fresh, inventive and delightful, ‘Once Upon a Mattress’ retells the classic Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale ‘The Princess and the Pea’ with wit and sophistication, and more important, human feeling. Featuring an uplifting score by Mary Rodgers (daughter of Richard Rodgers, of the songwriting team of Rodgers and Hammerstein), the show starred the great American comic actress Carol Burnett in her Broadway debut. This is a show that speaks to entire families and across generations.
Ashlyn Loveland is a second-year musical theatre major from Nampa, Idaho. She plays the role of Winnifred, an independent, feisty, free-thinking princess from the swamp lands.
“What I love most about my character is that she’s not afraid to be herself. Winnifred knows she isn’t perfect and she’s ok with that. She loves who she is and is proud of it,” states Loveland.
Jaron Shereda is a first-year multi-disciplinary studies and musical theatre major from Green River, Wyoming. He plays the role of Prince Dauntless and has enjoyed the challenges of acting in a musical comedy.
“Once Upon A Mattress” is different from others shows I’ve been in because of its humor and how much relies on our own choices; there are no limits to how dramatically something can be portrayed. We can use our creativity to make our acting over the top and as silly as possible,” states Shereda.
