Humanities in the Age of Technology

Humanities in the Age of Technology Poster

on Humanities in the Age of Technology, on September 3, 2021 at 7PM in room 1302.

Generally, studying Humanities is associated with “self-improvement” and becoming more creative, well-rounded, or empathetic. Dr. Baxter will answer with a more innovative argument with examples from literature and science, showing the truths that such study brings.

Dr. Baxter is the author of Falling Inward and has been a professor at Wyoming Catholic College (WCC) for nine years. He teaches Humanities courses as well as Art History from antiquity through modernity, and written rhetoric within the Trivium sequence.

His research interests include medieval and Renaissance ideas of beauty, the long-lived legacy of the thought of Plato, the poetry of Dante, medieval mysticism, humanism, and the relationship between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

On his website, Dr. Baxter states, “In my popular writing and lectures, I talk about the arts, travel and literature, technology and humanism, science and culture, and modernity and modernism/s (especially, in light of the ancient world).”

He recently published The Beginner Guide to Dante’s Divine Comedy and is currently working on An Introduction to Christian Mysticism and The Medieval Mind of C.S. Lewis

“Dr. Baxter brings a depth of knowledge in showing how the Humanities can help us navigate the needs and complexities of these technological, modern times,” stated Christopher Propst, Associate Professor of English and ESL at Western.

This event is sponsored by the Wesswick Foundation and Western Wyoming Community College’s First Year Experience Program.
