Western Launches New Blog

Western Wyoming Community College has launched a blog called “The Western” off of their main website page, giving prospective students and community members a unique, behind-the-scenes look at what the College has to offer.

“The Western” has posts written by students, instructors, coaches, or other employees that give an insider’s look at research projects, club work, community service, campus amenities, outdoor enrichment courses, and more. The blog showcases how Western is not a typical community college. It gives visitors a chance to see what life is like at Western, and how students’ experiences will provide a skillset and memories to last a lifetime.

Students will be a big part of building articles, and even had a hand in choosing the name. The College provided seven name options, and surveyed the students to find out which one resonated with them the most.

“The Western” serves to educate prospective students on what is happening inside and outside of the classroom. It also helps the College’s search engine optimization (SEO). By posting relevant content consistently, the College is able to rank higher with search engines like Google when prospective students research where to attend college. Data shows that websites that blog earn 67 percent more leads when compared to those that do not1.

“We are doing amazing things here: building robots, health science research, volunteer work, recycling projects, and more. We are excited to empower our students and program leads with a platform to present the fantastic projects they work on within their fields. I am a firm believer that those involved in Western’s diverse array of programs are the best people to share their knowledge with prospective students,” stated Kimberly Emerson, Director of Marketing and Communications at Western.

Having a blog benefits Western in many ways. The College hopes to see an uptick in website visits as the site gains momentum. In light of the State of Wyoming’s budget crisis and how the cuts have affected Western, this is an opportunity to stand out in the eyes of prospective students without spending money. It only costs time and creativity.
