Western Wyoming Community College’s photography instructor, Hank Ketelsen, will lead an hour-long workshop on using smart phone cameras to take quality photographs on September 17 at 5:30 PM in room 1408.

The photography workshop is part of a series showcasing some creative course offerings at Western, and is presented by Boars Tusk, Western’s literary journal with support from the Wesswick foundation and Sweetwater BOCES.

“Our phones have excellent cameras, so let’s talk about how to use them best. This workshop will go over best practices for getting proper exposure, how to do simple edits, and how to share your photos. Plenty of time will be dedicated to hands-on learning with your own phone,” stated Ketelsen.

Upcoming workshops include:

  • Art with Jacob Muldowney on October 13 at 6 PM in room 1430 (BIS lab South)

  • Poetry with Barbara M. Smith on October 18 at 7 PM in room 1408
  • Fiction with Alison Balaskovits on November 4 at 6 PM in room 1408 and by webinar at westernwyoming.zoom.us/j/95036614485. The webinar can be viewed in room 1408.

“We hope to interest both experienced artists and beginners at our workshops. All are encouraged to enjoy the creative process and submit to our journal,” said Michelle Zuppa, Boars Tusk Faculty Advisor.

All Boars Tusk workshops are free to students and community members. The literary journal is open for submissions of fiction, poetry, nonfiction, photography and artwork by Western students, faculty, and residents of Sweetwater County. Students and community members can also take ENGL 2100 to help produce and edit the journal.

The submission deadline is January 31, 2022. Submissions can be made on Western’s website page at westernwyoming.edu/boarstusk.
